You can apply to take a private number plate off a vehicle if you want to either:
When you remove a private number plate from a vehicle, that vehicle is automatically re-assigned its original registration number. If your application is successful, you or KINTO (depending on who you choose when applying) will be sent a V778 retention document, and KINTO will receive the new logbook (V5C). You must have your V778 prior to KINTO disposing of the vehicle; otherwise, you’ll lose the right to use the private number.
Please note, the DVLA charges a standard rate of £80 to remove your private number plate from a vehicle.
Retention online will show KINTO UK as the owner of the number plate, and no nominee option will be available. This is the quickest way to retain your number plate. By using the online process, the number plate will automatically be registered with the logbook owner's name. Once we receive the certificate, we will send it to you so you will be able to put the number plate on your next vehicle.
Alternatively, you can use the postal retention option.
If you are happy for the private number plate to be put in KINTO’s name and the certificate to be sent to you, simply follow the link below and fill out the form.
Once the request is received, we will let you know whether the £80 DVLA charge and KINTO admin fee are applicable to your contract.
