Tips for taking care of your vehicle this winter

21st November 2024

Did you know that around two thirds of drivers say they feel intimidate driving on icy roads and snow?

Additionally, 45% of drivers don’t carry out any checks on their vehicle before winter starts! However, doing these checks could prevent your vehicles from breaking down, and much worse.

To ensure you feel more confident on the roads and prepare you for this winter, we would like to share 5 top tips on how to maintain your vehicle.

As the name indicates, the ‘Dutch Reach’ originates from the Netherlands. It is a safety method encouraging vehicle drivers or passengers to open the door using their hand on the opposite side to the door they are opening. For example, using your left hand to open a door on your right-hand side.

Ensure you turn off all lights, heated windows, wipers etc before trying to start your engine.

For EV’s – if you drive an electric vehicle ensure you pre-condition it whilst it is plugged in to avoid drawing too heavily on the battery when you are driving.

If your car doesn’t start the first time, try again in short bursts 30 seconds apart.

Always ensure your ant-freeze is topped up!
Always keep an ice scraper, de-icer spray, torch and first aid kit in your vehicle.
